The Ultimate How To

Hi there! Welcome to The Ultimate How To!

Metapost-this is the end my friends

So guys now comes the end of our fun how to journey with each other.  I first made this blog for an assignment for uni. what can I say; its been fun its time to say goodbye. As part of the assignment I have to point out all the pros and cons of my page as well as any issues ive encountered, and some additional information. So have a read if you want to otherwise thank you for supporting my page.

Technical issues I couldn’t fix:

  •  The biggest issue I had was the header image, I found that when I put the image back into the header it was slightly un-aligned and a bit pixelated…. I tried to remedy this by re-photo shopping the image, resizing it in the css but it ended up changing the image and moving it all around the header, I in the end decided to leave it as I didn’t ruin the aesthetic of page itself.
  • I tried to add a flying twitter bird but the flash image kept disconnecting from the host image on the Internet, in the end I decided to take it out as the image was taking over my navigation and you couldn’t read it.
  • I also tried to add a twitter feed which displays up-to date live feed of twitter posts from my twitter page. The down sides where that it was stuck in the very top of my header and wouldn’t move. It also only worked in some browsers and not others. I didn’t remove it but it doesn’t show up.

Technical issues I could fix:

A feature I added was a scrolling mini navigation which included a link to the home page archive and ask page. This originally was left justified and cut off the main header. I was able to eventually change the justification to the right, which ended up looking a lot better.

Cool features:

·      Playlist: I added a playlist of some chill out music which viewers on my page could listen to while searching my page or turn off.

·      Scrolling mini menu: to make it convenient for viewers to get back to the top of a page or easily search for items.

·      Change to text: I changed the font and some of the sizes including the size of the header font.

·      People I follow: I added a people I follow box- so that my followers can follow some of the cool people I follow.

Websites from which I gained inspiration/ tools:

and many more which I can longer find

Your interpretation of lecture content:

Week 3: added basic html to my about page

Week 4: added google analytics page, posted my page onto a tumblr shout website and started researching some different css

Week 5: added custom css to my tumblr page and added css to my about page, I also made separate pages for different subjects.

Week 6: got a facebook and twitter page for my tumblr blog

Week 7: got some great feedback for my tumblr blog and its content-some people thought I should change the theme to allow for more css…, which I did.

Week:9 focused more on developing facebook and twitter page

Week 11: I added the mini side bar, and changed the header image.

Week 13: finished tweaking some issues I was having with the css.

Google analytics:

I changed my theme a lot in the beginning and have only had my google analytics up since the 15th April. Since then I’ve had 68 views, 42 unique visitors, 407 page views, 5.99 pages/Visits, 00:06:04 avg visit duration, 60.29% bounce rate and 58.82% new visits.

Visits:

I had a spike in visits on Wednesday the 18th of April when I started my twitter page- drawing more people to my site. I have also now had a steady rise of visitors since the 1st of May.

Integration with social media:

I constantly update both my Facebook page and my twitter page, both of which are also linked to my tumblr page. Twitter I use mostly for quick tips and tricks that people can use on the go. Facebook I sue to advertise most of my posts which are on tumblr but not everyone has tumblr so its good for that.

I also try and post or reblog once at least once a week.. this ensures that my viewers always have something new and current to look at and therefore keeps my viewers interested.

from this assignment I have learnt so much about adding customizations. However the main this I learnt where 2 things, the first was how to write online in a professional capacity not just lol,jks etc. the second thing I learnt was how to traffic people to a site by using a whole combination of different sites.

the things I think could of been improved in this unit would be building a website from scratch but maybe next time…

in the end I had 28 lovely followers on tumblr, 7 followers on twitter and 9 followers on Facebook

thank you all for your support :)

Again thanks for following me

I also added a photo of the changes i made to the original tumblr design and a copy of the google analytics page

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Creamy Hot Cocoa

By: JEANIE BEAN

“It’s old fashioned, it’s comforting, it makes the kitchen smell wonderful and it’s good for the soul.”
Prep Time: 2 Min
Cook Time: 5 Min
Ready In: 7 Min

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/3 cup boiling water
  • 3 1/2 cups milk
  • 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half cream

Directions

  1. Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn’t scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.
